REBELLIOUS:
NOT AN IMAGE, BUT A STATE OF MIND
Nothing does the mind, body, and soul more justice than a breath of fresh air. That is exactly what Southern Hip Hop group Rebellious brings to the culture. Pulling in the title and honor of the 2010 South Carolina Music Awards "Group of the Year," Rebellious is notablely dominating the music scence throughout the state. Their music may combine the ideologies of southern blues and west coast funk, but this hybrid hip hop collective has allowed their creativity and passion to master their music and formulate the Southern Groove sound.
Born Mendez Curry(Shawt) and Thomas Glover(G) in the area commonly known as the CSRA (Central Savannah River Area), they were raised in Edgefield County, South Carolina, which is more noted for being the home of Senator Strom Thurmund ,10 South Carolina Governors and the heart of Jim Crow. These two first met in middle school and thats when their friendship began. Also known as Shawt & G, these two artists exist collectively to bring integrity and quality back to the forefront of music.
Rebellious, aka Shawt & G are no strangers to the music industry and its successes. When their 2009 mixtape, Rise to the Occasion: The Carolina Blueprint, took to the streets of South Carolina and the online music and entertainment community, it raised eyebrows and a sense of pride in the state. The mixtape's recognition and achievement has prompted Rebellious to hit the studio and record 93 Octane: The EP, slated for late fall 2010. This body of work still encompasses the Rebellious/Southern Groove sound, but with more conviction, intention, crafted delivery, and banging beats. "93 Octane" is as universal as their fan base.
RISE to the OCCASION: THE CAROLINA BLUEPRINT
January 2010 marked a pivotal time in Rebellious music history. They have put blemishes on the "now" definition of hip-hop music and have made a lane for themselves on the hip hop highway with their latest installment, Rise to the Occasion: The Carolina Blueprint. This body of work brings the darkness and trials of the working class and everyday people to light, with records like "Man in Desperation" and "Pressure." Rebellious then goes against the grain, speaking with torturous tongues and spiritual synonyms with records like "Watch Yo Mouth" and "Nightlife." They also reveal a more intimate side for their loyal female fan base with the smash record, "Lady." Not to mention the street favorites, "Leather & Wood," "You Aint This Fly," and "In The Wind." The success of The Carolina Blueprint lead to REBELLIOUS being nominated for Group of the Year and Mixtape of the Year at the 2010 South Carolina Music Awards. Moreover, it solidified the group as a fixture in the Carolina music scene and it set the bar on how to deliver timeless music. The Carolina Blueprint shows where Rebellious is now and the bright future ahead of them. They are the oxygen tanks of the south, with a refreshing sound of consciousness and triumph.
